A View From Above - Kyaikthanlan Paya in Mawlamyine

The Kyaikthanlan Paya is approached(like most hilltop pagodas in Myanmar,) by a long covered walkway of stairs leading you up the hill. This pagoda was made famous by Rudyard Kipling's poem 'Mandalay.'

One of the small buildings which are just off the side of the covered walkway.

This is the view away from the sunset, on the other side of the hill. On our long morning walk we walked directly by the bottom of this walkway(seen on the right hand side.) The sunset is on the opposite side.

The pagoda.

Towards the sunset.... We went to the island seen on the other side of the water. Those pictures will come next.

The road which intersects the long covered walkway.

The colonial era prison of Mawlamyine. This is where the Orwell story, "The Hanging" took place.
