Inside our tiny hotel room in Yangon. 1000kyat is equal to 1 dollar. We exchanged our US dollars for stacks of one hundred 1000kyat(pronounced "chat") bills. I don't know why they didn't give us larger bills, but apparently, this is normal in Myanmar! Just today we learned that we probably could've gotten 10,000kyat bills, but neglected to ask.... the 1000's are the most common and easiest to use since most things are about 300 to 1500kyat. This hotel room was 19,000 a night($19) and included our own bathroom and a mini fridge! It was the cheapest room we could find our first night in Yangon..... More pictures to come tomorrow, today was a very busy day!
The site of my first coffee in Myanmar. Note the funny stoves made of a bucket filled with cement and a hole cut in the side.... These are everywhere here and are actually a pretty dang good idea! Unfortunately coffee here is pretty boring and is almost always the classic Asian 3 in 1 packets. 3 in 1 being a one cup size pack of powder containing coffee, powdered milk and sugar. It pretty much just tastes like hot chocolate and seems to have almost no caffeine.

keep your hearts open

the machinery
of morning
the machinery
of morning
silent
in precision
see how
liquid
light
illuminates
each intimacy
shadows
long
(yearning)
silhouettes
our breathing
slowed by
all
night's spare
lumens
each star
a sun
too far
and
the moon
a cold
translation
and still
no praying
could slow
the mechanisms
designed
and some
say god
to invent
each
new
day
